So, that's the start of my rant, but I've just gotten started. You work in a vehicle repair shop and you randomly replace parts without testing to pin point the problem area, I'm afraid your statements caused you a huge lose in credibility.

Joined Aug 15, I'm hoping that by re-posting among those who read the powertrain forum that I might reach both a broader audience more than just trucks but also a more focused group folks who concern themselves with the powertrain.

Note that I did a search on 'whine' before posting this and found nothing I could immediately use, hence the need to post. And yes, I read every result. It seems to be throttle-related in some way, as it manifests both when in motion as well as when parked.

The whine manifests as the engine begins to rev up When under way and I am accelerating, the whine manifests frequently for 0. The whine falls away after the shift and may or may not reappear in the next gear.

When under way and I am decelerating, the whine manifests as the truck downshifts. Of those circumstances it seems to happen mostly when I'm under way I have the sense that the position of the gas pedal is playing into this in some way I say this because when accelerating the noise appears to be most common when I'm steady on the gas for a reasonble take-off i. I got an even stronger sence of this when I noticed the problem manifested while parked -- when I was goosing the gas pedal to see if it'd make the sound I'm hearing.

I am going to recruit a friend to help me diagnose the origin of the sound I'm an engine newbie -- however I have a manual, a mechanical aptitude, and some time. Joined Apr 26, Have you checked all the air hoses and what not from the throttle body to the air intake? We had several mechanical issues over the course of ownership, though, and some recent trouble with it - plus the k miles - and we were ready for a new vehicle.

My wife and two young daughters test drove the new Pilot and Highlander and none of us liked them. Really, at all. Even though I wanted to like them, I just didn't. Then we test drove a Acadia Denali. We did a pile of research and decided to go forward with the purchase. It was easy to find one trimmed like we wanted. We were realistic - we were used to the space the Pilot had and this vehicle has less; that is just a fact.

A few drawbacks - the USB ports which are all over the place in a good way - are labeled as not to be used for charging devices. To me, that is really their sole purpose beyond the option to plug in a USB drive with music in the front dash. I haven't tried using them for charging but I assume they will charge a device.

Another mild drawback is the faux wood trim panels. It is pretty 'faux' - I'd rather have a satin metal look than this plastic wood - and this is in the "Denali" trim which to me is the luxury level - "Professional Grade". There is an occasional 'shudder' when driving it - like a transmission shift-point confusion or maybe the 2 cylinder shutdown process.

It has only happened a few times and it isn't a big deal but you can 'feel' something odd for a few moments while driving. The Acadia system is simple. Same with the touchscreen - it isn't full of visual noise. The seats are comfortable, road noise is minimal and the interior is just a wonderful place to be.

I go sit in the car in the driveway : The kids love the 'captains' chairs they get and the heat option. The third row seats are comfortable, too and there is space for adults. If you use them, though, you are just about out of space - there isn't much if you flip those 3rd row seats up.

The car accelerates strongly and handles well - much better than our Pilot. A drawback - there isn't a dash indication of what mode you're in. Another drawback - there aren't blinkers on the sideview mirrors - this is a good safety feature to me on the highway when changing lanes to indicate to drivers on your diagonal that you're moving over. The wheels are glorious and I favor Michelin tires and our model has them.

The bright lights are maybe a bit dimmer than one might expect but I don't feel it's limiting in any way. The backup camera is nice; the guidelines curve as the steering wheel is turned. You can change this to a beep if the seat vibrating freaks you out. There is also low-speed and automatic braking if the car senses objects in front - I can't tell if this works or not. There is also the adaptive cruise control related to the auto-braking and this does work - it was nice on our recent trip - if I approached a vehicle in my lane, cruise would ease back and hold until I switched lanes or the other car did and then it would resume my set speed.

It did this without gunning the throttle, either - I've been in those cars where 'resume' thinks it's a race back to the set speed. I can't say much about the reliability yet. On our road trip, I think we were getting 26 mpg on the highway there is a feature to turn off 2 of the 6 cyl.

Recalls do not have to be issued only because something is prone to failure. Manufacturers can voluntarily recall cars for problems that do not affect these, though.

Recalls often apply to only some cars of a specific model year, rather than all of them. You should receive a letter from the manufacturer if your car has been recalled. You can also check with the dealer, which will know which if any recalls pertain to your car.

The primary purpose of TSBs is to inform dealers about known problems with a car and how to fix them. They are not the same as recalls. As with recalls, TSBs often only apply to some cars, not the entire model year. Dealers often will not provide a preventive repair just because a problem described in a TSB might happen to your car. They'll usually want to observe symptoms that the problem is already affecting your car.

Even if there are symptoms, a manufacturer doesn't have to pick up the cost of a TSB repair if the car is out of warranty, though sometimes they do. Was told the timing chain is bad and needs replaced. I can't afford that. Upon calling mechanics all over town, they all say it's a common problem with gm's timing chains.

See all problems of the GMC Acadia. I was experiencing problems driving my vehicle. It was riding rough and making a loud noise when I accelerated, so I took it to my mechanic and I got spark plugs and an oil change-still was riding rough.

I went back and got a cam shaft position replaced-still nothing changed. I took it to another mechanic. He said it was an O2 censor. Changed it and nothing changed. No one could tell me what was wrong or what the noise was. Finally one morning on my way to work I had to pull over on the highway bc the car wouldn't accelerate. Got it towed to a different mechanic and that's when I found out it was the timing chain.

Finally one place told me to see if there was a recall. I called GMC. They said there is a recall on the timing chain. While driving steady at any speed when rpm was between and vehicle vibrated to point was not drivable.

The dealer performed SB 17 na and vibration is gone and Acadia drives great. We did lose gas mileage and service rep said this was a patch while GMC investigates for a permanent repair. I still haven't heard any news but will ask when I go in for first maintenance service. It seems to be potentially when the V6 converts to run on just 4 cylinders or something, at those RPMs. I'm no technician or engine person.

They said they tested another similar vehicle on lot - same issue. Said to drive it still, for a couple thousand more miles and said that my car would 'learn' and adapt to my drive style. I didn't believe that would happen but did as instructed. A few weeks later, at around miles total, returned from a 5 hour round trip on non-interstate roads Emailed dealer that the vibration is still there, totally ruining my new car experience, and that I hate driving this because of this vibration. I sent the dealer what I found on an Edmunds.

Dealer called me back and said that the bulletin says GM is aware of this condition and it is currently under investigation by their engineering team. Dealer said to check back mid May to see if solution. In the meantime, I am to keep driving it.
